Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood has been arrested over a rape claim on social media. According to BBC, the arrest was confirmed via a statement from the Greater Manchester Police.
Greenwood, 20, remains in custody amidst the ongoing investigation into the rape allegations against him.
In a related development, Premier League giants Manchester United have suspended Greenwood following the rape claim levelled against the Englishman by a woman, Robson. The three-time European champions made this known in a statement released after the videos and images shared by the aforementioned Robson on social media. It was said that the England international won’t return to training with the club or play matches until further notice. The Red Devils went on to say that they any form of violence and that no further comment would be made on the matter until the facts have been established.
Manchester United star Greenwood is yet to respond to the social media claim against him. He came through the ranks at the club before playing his first game for the senior team almost three years ago. Greenwood made his Manchester United debut in March 2019.The England international forward penned a four-year deal in February 2021.
Greenwood has been a regular for Manchester United this season. He started the current Premier League season with a goal each in the first three games against Leeds United (home), Southampton (away) and Wolves (away). The English star scored one of the goals in the 5-1 thumping of Leeds United before rescuing a point via a 1-1 draw against Southampton. His goal against Wolves gave Manchester United the three points against Wolves. Greenwood has five goals and one assist in 18 Premier League matches this season.
