Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has come under fire in recent weeks as his players have failed to produce convincing results of late in their last few Premier League matches. The Blues are in a rather worrying run of form as they have picked up just one win in their last five attempts.
Before the season began, and even after it kicked off, Chelsea were considered to be serious contenders and were touted to challenge both Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League crown. However, after their recent run of poor results, tables have turned and the team is now being considered as just top 4 candidates.
Throughout October and November, Frank Lampard’s side went on an unbeaten streak of nine games but fell to two straight defeats against Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month. Their following match saw them run out comfortable winners as they defeated David Moyes’s West Ham United side at Stamford Bridge.
Since then, they have played Arsenal on Boxing Day, losing 3-1 to Mike Arteta’s struggling Gunners side, and also played pit a 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa.
Although the pressure is currently mounting on the English manager to start producing results at Chelsea, it is believed that the club’s owner Roman Abramovich will not be sacking the former Derby County boss but will give him the backing he needs to turn things around.
However, the Daily Star has given a list of three candidates who could be called upon to fill the role should Lampard be dismissed.
Thomas Tuchel
Tuchel was recently sacked by French club Paris Saint-Germain after leading the club to their first-ever Champions League final. He is available and a strong candidate.
Massimiliano Allegri
Since leaving Juventus in 2019, Allegri has not gone into any job. He is the second option should Lampard be sacked.
Nuno Espirito Santo
Nuno is currently doing a great job at Wolves and is seen as one of the top managers of the Premier League. It might take some convincing to do but it shouldn’t be a tough one for Abramovich should he need a replacement for Lampard.
